She noted that the current compost
shack is not ideal and suggested improvements to make it a more inviting and functional
space if the town is serious about composting. She also recommended arranging a training
session with Chris Ball and his team, in coordination with committee chairs, to streamline
the process. Board Member Collins agreed and noted that IT can assist in scheduling a
Zoom meeting.
OLD BUSINESS
ADDITIONAL TOPICS
(This space is reserved for topics that the Chair did not reasonably anticipate would be discussed)
LIAISON REPORTS
WATER QUALITY UPDATES
The Board received a public comment regarding the presence of large algal mats in the Waquoit
Bay boat area, specifically near Waquoit Way. The mats are reportedly so extensive that they are
causing overheating issues and raising serious environmental concerns. The speaker emphasized
the unusually early and severe growth this season and urged the Board to act with urgency to
address the issue.
TOWN MANAGER UPDATE
The Board was informed of a proposed five-year sewer cost agreement with the Cape Cod
Commission and the Mashpee Water District (MWD) that has not yet come before the Board for
formal approval; the same terms and conditions have been sent for review. A representative has
been recommended for the approval committee, with school representation included. The
Finance Manager noted that the Housing Production Plan, as previously mentioned, will be
posted to the town website and full copies are available upon request. The Boys and Girls Club
Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), discussed at the last meeting, has been reviewed by legal
counsel. Additionally, the Cape Cod Commission’s involvement in the proposed Community
Activity Center was noted as more of a policy matter, currently under Planning Board review, with
further details to come.
