Fernandes
The Select Board welcomed Dylan Fernandes, Massachusetts State Senator, who is touring Cape
towns to introduce himself, hold public meetings, and promote transparency and engagement at
the State House.
Numerous key issues were discussed, including updates on the Pocasset Mental Health Center.
Emphasis was placed on holding public forums to address Cape Bridges and to encourage greater
community involvement. Environmental factors affecting the Cape were also a significant part of
the discussion.
Selectman Weeden raised concerns about MassDevelopment’s plan for a regional housing
commission under the Cape Cod Commission.
Fernandes responded by noting that there is an emphasis on treating the Cape as a unique
environment with tailored solutions rather than blanket state policies.
Update on the Mashpee Food Pantry
The Select Board welcomed Frank Fantasia, Director of Christ the King Food Pantry. Frank
Fantasia notes the pantry serves 125 families weekly, distributing 6,000 pounds of food with the
help of 100 volunteers and no paid staff. It’s non-denominational and primarily supported by the
Greater Boston Food Bank, which is facing a $2.3 billion budget cut. The pantry also partners with
the Cape Cod Times Needy Fund for financial aid.
Selectman Cotton praised the commitment of the volunteers and encouraged others to consider
volunteering.

COMMUNICATIONS & CORRESPONDENCE

NEW BUSINESS
Review and Approval of Special Event Permit Applications
Annual Race Amity Day, June 8, 2025, 12-4 PM
