Town of Mashpee Conservation Commission
16 Great Neck Road North
Mashpee, MA 02649
• The Commission discussed procedural options for handling the
stabilization plan and conditions for approval. It was explained that the
applicant could either return with an amended Order of Conditions for
the vegetated bank restoration or submit the plan for administrative
approval with Commission review. Given the urgency, it was
recommended the latter option to expedite stabilization, noting that
waiting for an amended order would delay the process with new abutter
notifications and extended timelines. Commissioners agreed that this case
was unique and required swift action due to the extreme erosion.
• The Commission also discussed conditioning approval of the pool.
Members suggested requiring that the pool only be built if the
reconstructed bank provided a minimum 25-foot setback. Questions were
raised about pool design, and the applicant confirmed it would be a
saltwater pool with pervious pavers around it. Commissioners pressed
about the likely effectiveness of the stabilization plan. It was shared about
prior experience with similar banks, noting that erosion control netting,
jute matting, and prompt planting had proven durable even through
major storms in recent winters.
o Discussion: Members briefly considered requiring adherence to peer
review recommendations but decided that this would be covered under a
previous permit and not applicable here. Additional details were
confirmed, including that the driveway would be constructed with porous
pavers and there was a commitment to ensure that this specification
appeared on the final plans.
Motion bv: Richard Sahl Seconded bv: Sandi Godfrey
Vote: Motion passed.
Ave: 3 (Steven Cook, Sandi Godfrey, and Richard Sahl)
Nav: 1 (Paul Colombo)
