Town of Mashpee Shellfish Commission 16 Great Neck Road North Mashpee,MA 02649 was that most residents are eager to comply once they understand the long-term benefits of following the regulations. Additional Comments and Observations Constable Avis discussed the importance of careful oversight and adaptive management in maintaining shellfish health and productivity. He cited examples such as monitoring water temperature, adjusting propagation schedules and strategically relocating to optimize growth. The department hopes to incorporate new technologies and techniques, including more efficient sorting and tracking systems, to improve operational precision despite limited staffing, citing the program used by the Harbormaster as one such sorting and tracking system with a history of ease of use and success. On staffing, he reported that the department is currently down to two regular employees as seasonal student workers have returned to school. AmeriCorps members are continuing to provide assistance, and the restoration of AmeriCorps funding ensures this support will remain in place moving forward. Despite the leaner staff, propagation and enforcement work is continuing effectively, though he acknowledged that it requires careful prioritization. He announced the promotion of Tyler Grady to the position of Natural Resource Officer. He praised Mr. Grady's reliability, strong communication skills, and ability to engage constructively with the public. He said that Mr. Grady has been particularly effective in balancing enforcement with education, which has helped improve community relations. Chair Thomas echoed these remarks, commending Mr. Grady for his approachability, poise, and the positive impression he makes as a representative of the department, underscoring the value of skilled personnel in maintaining both ecological health and community trust.
