Town of Mashpee Shellfish Commission <br /> 16 Great Neck Road North <br /> Mashpee,MA 02649 <br /> was that most residents are eager to comply once they understand the long-term benefits of following the <br /> regulations. <br /> Additional Comments and Observations <br /> Constable Avis discussed the importance of careful oversight and adaptive management in <br /> maintaining shellfish health and productivity. He cited examples such as monitoring water temperature, <br /> adjusting propagation schedules and strategically relocating to optimize growth. <br /> The department hopes to incorporate new technologies and techniques, including more efficient <br /> sorting and tracking systems, to improve operational precision despite limited staffing, citing the program <br /> used by the Harbormaster as one such sorting and tracking system with a history of ease of use and <br /> success. <br /> On staffing, he reported that the department is currently down to two regular employees as seasonal <br /> student workers have returned to school. AmeriCorps members are continuing to provide assistance, and <br /> the restoration of AmeriCorps funding ensures this support will remain in place moving forward. Despite <br /> the leaner staff, propagation and enforcement work is continuing effectively, though he acknowledged <br /> that it requires careful prioritization. <br /> He announced the promotion of Tyler Grady to the position of Natural Resource Officer. He praised <br /> Mr. Grady's reliability, strong communication skills, and ability to engage constructively with the public. <br /> He said that Mr. Grady has been particularly effective in balancing enforcement with education, which <br /> has helped improve community relations.
