-2-
Richard told us that he has two large planting pots, and he asked for permission to
purchase two small shrubs to be planted in the pots and placed beside the war
memorial. He made a motion to spend funds for selecting dwarf shrubs to be planted in
the pots, and it was seconded by Nancy, and voted unanimously.
Ava updated us about the Historical Preservation Awards ceremony to be held on July
27th. The award for 2024 was for the booklet, The Ultimate Sacrifice: Mashpee in
the American Revolution. We will be honoring Aeysha Shafi and Lindsey Lu,
representing the MMHS History Honor Society, and their advisor, Brian Brodie. Also,
we will award the 3rd grade students of the Weetumuw school, together with their
teacher, Tia Pockneft. The students will receive medals for their art work. The Town
will be represented by Michaela Wyman-Colombo, Chair of the Select Board, at the
ceremony.
Richard advised us of the progress they are making on the new War Memorial. VH13 is
the engineering contractor for the project. Richard continues to research the names to
be chiseled into the front of the monument. On the back of the monument will be
inscribed all the names of the more recent conflicts since Viet Nam.
We reviewed the Veterans Banners Ceremony which was held on July 13th. It was
warmly received by both Mashpee residents and all the Veterans and their families who
were in attendance. It was most unfortunate that the public address system did not
work, and therefore the speakers could not be heard well. There were three changes to
the names on the banners, and they will be reprinted.
A motion to adjourn the meeting was proposed at 5:45 pm by Richard DeSorgher and
seconded by Nancy, and it was unanimously approved.
Respectfully submitted
Ann Graham, Sr. Clerk
