IMP. IMBO
d"fr,,{yn,r,fw VhP.
w Mashpee lncCusion and-Diversity Committee
16 Great Weck RoadWorth
'Alashyee, AMA 02649
The Chair was prepared to write a grant for the Mash pee Cultural Council, we did not receive
funding from the Mass Cultural Council, or the local chapter. The Council is trying to create
new projects, not maintain programs already in existence. She would like to re-word some of
the application and review their purpose for Race Amity Day. She would ultimately like to
expand on that and include more diversity and obtain more funding for the event. The
subcommittee for Race Amity Day will start meeting soon.
Rolf Bradnt resigned from the Committee and there is an opening. She would like current
members to reach out to someone who may be interested. She will ask Effie Purdy if she is
interested.
NEW BUSINESS
Nomination for Chair and Co-Chair
Ms. Johnson-Graham stated she will be stepping down from the role of Vice-Chair.
MOTION:
Winnie Johnson-Graham moved to nominate Marie Stevenson as Chair. Seconded
by Richard Klein. All in favor.
MOTION:
Winnie Johnson-Graham moved to nominate Dan Kupferman as Vice Chair.
Seconded by Gail Wilson. All in favor.
Proposal for Cemetery
Mohamad Zefzaf will require more time to report on this effectively next meeting. What this
would look like is a motion taken by this Committee, then that vote goes to the Select Board,
they vote for/against and if against, that's the end of it. This proposal is to ask the Town to
dedicate a small portion of the cemetery to Muslim residents. The Muslim community has two
options when they die, take the body back to wherever they came from, or to be buried in the
closest Muslim cemetery, which is in Danvers and costs over $10,000. This is a reasonable
ask and aligns with current practices in this country. Many towns provide small sections for
different religious sects.
Ms. Stevenson followed up with Richard Klein about inviting a guest for November, an
educator in the school system.
On Sunday, October 12t" from 3:OOPM-5:OOPM, the Falmouth Cultural Center will be hosting
an Indigenous Peoples Day celebration.
NEXT MEETING: Tuesday, October 21, 2025 @ 5:OOPM
4
