The IMLS (Institute of Museum and Library Services) is not currently functioning as
a federal department. CLAMS usually receives a federal e-content grant. The state
was covering the Overdrive / Libby costs. Last fiscal year, we received $64,869 to
purchase e-books for the collection. This year's amount has decreased to $35,048
and it needs to be used by the end of September.
The MBLC (Mass. Board of Library Commissioners) has entirely removed e-books,
e-audiobooks, and anything of that variety, from holdings. Holdings now include print
books, print periodicals, audio CDs/cassettes, VHS/DVDs, downloadable audio
/videos, and miscellaneous items like laptops and hotspots. The collection was
refined for outdated materials, and the Mashpee Enterprise collection was relocated
to the Archives building after it was digitized. A lot of music was removed from the
collection.
2024 Holdings: 95,628 2025 Holdings: 43,438
The numbers declined in print but reappeared in digital circulation. Hoopla started
mid-year, which increased downloadable videos from 0-4,000. The Library Director
is apprehensive to add those to the library, as costs skyrocket when input into the
ILS.
Total Circulation 2024: 273,354 Total Circulation 2025: 297,140
CHAIR'S REPORT
The Trustees can recommend appointing a new member, and the Select Board will
confirm. The resignation letter for Mary Hillerich was forwarded, procedurally it must
be submitted by a Trustee, Ann Macdonald will follow up.
TRUSTEE EDUCATION & OUTREACH
Both the Chairs and Library Director would like to hold a working session in
September during the meeting time slot to complete the review of bylaws and Open
Meeting Law and will be added to the agenda for the next meeting. Ann Macdonald
will e-mail copies of the Trustee Handbook and any related materials. The Open
Meeting Law can be located on Mass.gov for reference.
For outreach, Ann Macdonald would like to design a program that any of the
Trustees could give and feel comfortable presenting.
3
