Freshwater Ponds Committee <br />August 19,2025 <br /> <br />Dan Kent-yes <br />Diane Phillips-yes <br />Amy DuFault-yes <br />Susan Dangel-yes <br />Irene Checkovich-yes <br />Jonathan Small-yes <br />Laurel Francke-yes <br />Linda Farricy-yes <br />New Business <br /> Water Quality Update-Ashley Fisher Water Quality Coordinator <br />Ashley Fisher provided an update on several local water bodies: <br /> Santuit Pond remains under a public health advisory due to a cyanobacteria <br />bloom. The pond is being monitored closely. <br /> Ashumet Pond has raised potential concerns following reports of surface scum <br />along the north shore. <br /> Mashpee-Wakeby Pond has shown signs of solidification, particularly noted in <br />the Narrows and Wakeby areas. <br /> Johns Pond is impacted by ongoing drought conditions, raising concerns for both <br />private property owners and fish passage, particularly herring. <br /> The RFP for Phase 1 of the Mashpee-Wakeby Pond Restoration Project has <br />been released; however, no proposals have been received to date. <br /> At Santuit Pond, JW Dubois of Chatham has begun a comprehensive overhaul of <br />the town landings. This includes art installations supported by the NEA and <br />coordination with local tribal summer camps. <br /> Final estuary sampling for the season is scheduled for next week. Additional <br />nutrient monitoring stations will be added in the coming year, including new sites <br />at Johns Pond and Moody Pond. <br /> Treatment efforts remain on track. UMass Dartmouth is finalizing their project <br />package, and multiple grants are still in progress for Santuit Pond.
