Rules and Regulations
The Chairman emphasized that the committee's goal is not to change any rules or regulations, but to
condense them into a more user-friendly format. The streamlined version will contain the most relevant
information for recreational shellfish harvesters, while the full rules will remain available online.
Constable Avis explained that recreational diggers will receive only the recreational regulations, while
commercial and aquaculture rules will be available separately upon request. He elaborated that the
condensed packet would be printed and distributed with recreational shellfish permits, while the full set
of regulations—covering aquaculture, commercial operations, and broader enforcement rules—would
remain accessible online and available in print upon request. He said this approach mirrors what
neighboring towns have done, helping to reduce confusion and unnecessary questions at the permit
counter.
He further explained that while this new format simplifies presentation, it was also a good opportunity to
clean up inconsistencies, outdated references, and redundancies throughout the regulations.
1
