Town of Mashpee Sewer Commission
t
16 Great Neck Road North
Mashpee, MA 02649
RESIDENT EMAIL REGARDING TREE CLEARING & BUFFERS
The Chair noted that the Commission received an email from resident William Rigney
concerned about tree cutting and land clearing associated with expansion of the sand beds and
Phase 2 upgrades. The resident asked about what landscaping and buffering would be provided
to soften the visual impact and protect abutting properties. Staff responded to the email,
explaining that the project includes plans for tree retention where possible, buffer systems, and
landscaping to restore and screen the area once construction is complete. The Chair thanked staff
for responding and reported that, since there has been no follow-up from the resident, it appears
the response was satisfactory.
ADDITIONAL TOPICS (not reasonably anticipated by Chair)
EASEMENT LETTER FOLLOW-UP
The Chair noted her appreciation that concerns about easement letters have begun to subside.
While some questions remain among residents, the volume has decreased, and commissioners
agreed that public understanding appears to be improving.
SUMMERWOOD PAVING COMPLETION
The Chair invited Commissioner Erickson to update the Commission on paving concerns
raised previously by residents of Summerwood. He reported that paving is now fully completed,
including fresh line striping finished over the prior two days. Despite temporary
inconveniences—parking restrictions, closed areas during asphalt work, the neighborhood is
pleased, and no complaints have been received. The final product is uniform and fully restored,
with no patchwork remaining.
GREAT NECK SOUTH—REQUEST FOR CLARIFICATION ON PHASING
Commissioner Lyons asked for confirmation that Great Neck Road South, which includes
roughly 300-400 residences, is included in the new phasing plan and will not be overlooked. He
expressed concern that these properties continue to discharge into the river and must be
prioritized. Mr. Drainville clarified that Great Neck South is included as part of Phase 4 but is
depicted in two separate pieces—one north of Route 28/151 and one south of it—which may
have caused confusion.
He committed to returning next month with a time frame specifically addressing the Great
Neck South sub-areas, noting that future work will be presented in sub-phases with progressively
more detail as design advances.
SUB-PHASES WILL INCLUDE TIMELINES & RESIDENCE COUNTS OVER TIME
Mr. Drainville reiterated that the Town will receive clearer information as phasing progresses
into smaller sub-sections. While he doesn't yet have residence counts for each sub-phase, he will
provide approximate time frames for Great Neck South at the next meeting, with more granular
detail—street-level, property counts, business connections—added as the planning and design
stages expand.
