Town of Mashpee Conservation Commission
16 Great Neck Road North
Mashpee, MA 02649
• Commissioners support includes stronger conservation restriction language in written comments.
• Any conservation restriction would ultimately return to the Conservation Commission for review and
designation of a qualified monitoring entity.
Commission members emphasized that written comment letters carry greater weight than verbal testimony, and
supported submitting detailed, technically grounded comments to the state and local boards.
• DPW. Santuit Pond Landing
The Department of Public Works (DPW)requested guidance on whether proposed minor changes to the scope
of work and work limits at Santuit Pond Landing could be approved administratively or would require an
Amended Order of Conditions. DPW explained that the changes involve adjustments to the road layout,
including a localized widening to improve maneuvering. The surface would remain porous, not paved. Some of
the proposed work would occur within approximately 15-20 feet of bordering wetlands, and the site is fully
surrounded by wetland resource areas. In addition, multiple projects are underway at the landing, including
sewer work and a broader reconstruction effort, increasing the need for clarity and coordination.
Commission members expressed concern about approving changes without reviewing detailed plans, noting that
the extent of the impacts was not fully clear. The consensus was that the changes should be reviewed formally.
The Commission agreed that DPW should submit an Amended Order of Conditions, rather than seeking
administrative approval, so the revised work can be fully reviewed with certified plans. Staff will notify DPW
of this determination.
Updates: (*15 minutes) (Public Comment solicited for each update—3 minutes per comment)
Chair Cook indicated the following will be addressed at the upcoming quarterly meeting:
• Red Brook Road Culvert(Waquoit Bay Research Reserve-grant assistance)
• Upper Quashnet Restoration
• Johns Pond and Santuit Pond Milfoil
• Chop Chaque Bog Restoration
• Local Comprehensive Plan
• Herring Warden
• Harbor Management Committee
• Mashpee River Restoration
• Santuit Pond Fish Ladder—NRCS
• Guided Nature Tours—January Schedule
• Poppy Spit Dredge
Staff reported that there are no new updates on the current project list at this time. Many major projects are still
in the public comment or permitting phases, and more substantive updates will be available once those projects
move further into permitting and construction.
3
