Select Board
January 5,2026
Minutes

Selectman Richardson asked Board members to consider and suggest potential topics for
Mashpee TV’s program, “What You Would Like to Know.”
Selectman Weeden noted the ongoing Mill Pond and Mashpee River redesign. He reported
that, at its last meeting, the EOC voted to make a recommendation to gain a better
understanding of how decisions are being made regarding the realignment of the river. The
recommendation included engaging a consultant with specialized expertise, if one has not
already been retained.
Chair Wyman-Colombo noted that the Council on Aging delivered many Christmas gifts on
December 18. She also reported that the Planning Board held a public meeting on December
17 regarding the proposed Trader Joe’s, during which residents spoke both in favor of and
against the project. The Planning Board is scheduled to meet again on Wednesday to
continue discussions.
WATER QUALITY UPDATES
Selectman Cotton inquired about the status of cesspools in the Town of Mashpee and their
impact on local water quality. Town Manager Rodney Collins responded that he will arrange
for a knowledgeable speaker to address this topic at a future meeting.
TOWN MANAGER UPDATES
The Town Manager provided an update regarding an important message from the DPW
Director. At the October 2025 meeting, an article was accepted to convert two private roads
into public roads. However, as the DPW finalized plans, it was discovered that all properties
along these roads have private wells, making it impossible to install any stormwater system
that would comply with required setbacks. The DPW Director recommended that the Town
not move forward with accepting the roads. Since the Town had not yet acquired the rights
to the roads from the property owners, no action is required, and the acceptance will lapse.
Town Counsel suggested notifying the property owners of this decision and advising them
that, even if the acceptance lapses, the Town is not precluded from accepting the roads as
public ways in the future should circumstances change.
ADJOURNMENT
Motion made by Selectman Richardson to adjourn the meeting.
Motion seconded by Selectman Cotton.
Vote: 5-0 Unanimous
7
