<br />Select Board <br />March 4,2026 <br />Minutes <br />Discussion also addressed the hiring freeze that had been implemented earlier in the <br />year. Collins explained that the freeze was implemented out of caution when <br />projections indicated a potential significant increase in insurance costs. <br /> <br />Selectman Cotton expressed interest in maintaining a lean operational approach even <br />if an override were approved. Collins responded that each hiring decision would be <br />evaluated on a case-by-case basis depending on operational needs. <br /> <br />Chair Wyman-Colombo noted that she had attended departmental budget meetings <br />and observed the reductions departments had already made in response to budget <br />guidance. She also noted that municipalities across the state are facing similar fiscal <br />challenges while attempting to maintain services for their communities. <br /> <br />Collins emphasized that the development of the FY2027 budget was a collaborative <br />e?ort involving all department heads, including the School Department. He noted that <br />while initial requests were higher, adjustments were made through discussion to arrive <br />at a reasonable proposal. <br /> <br />Collins concluded the discussion by noting department heads may be asked to attend <br />Town Meeting to answer questions related to their respective budgets and warrant <br />articles. <br /> <br />No votes were taken on the warrant articles at this time. <br />Additional Topics <br />(This space is reserved for topics that the Chair did not reasonably anticipate would be <br />discussed) <br />Town Manager Updates <br />The Town Manager thanked the Department of Public Works for their strong <br />performance and responsiveness during the recent storm. He also expressed <br />appreciation to the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe for providing a warming center for <br />residents.
