She says newer systems are much more reliably hitting their numbers than the older
legacy systems.

Health Agent Zackary Seabury mentions that Nitro is being approved and Nitrex is more
difficult to purchase because it is not locally manufactured. The I/A Technology is
already required in Nitrogen Sensitive areas requiring 10 mg/l or less. He has worked to
update the regulations to help reduce the nitrogen load by adding the regulation
requiring a setback of 1000 feet from surface waters.

He explains that some systems combine technology to get to the lowest Total Maximum
Daily Load (TMDL). Agent Seabury is looking at regulations to combine the effort of the
Health Department with the work of the Wastewater Department to lower the loads.
Areas that are not in the Nitrogen Sensitive Area are not required to install I/A
Technology. Agent Seabury will be taking all comments into consideration. Looking at
next best steps for regulation and combining with the Wastewater Dept efforts.

Mr. Livingston mentions as this I/A technology continues to develop and more choices
should be available to consumers in the future. He mentions he lives on a peninsula and
there are an incredible number of houses directly abutting the water that most likely
will not be sewered and that is why getting the I/A systems into these neighborhoods is
important.

Mr. Seabury notes this is why the Mashpee regulation for a 1000-foot setback from
water is important.

Mr. Ring says it’s a staged approach and weighing all the options is important.
Ms. Megaw refers to another brand of septic system called the Fuji Clean. Agent
Seabury says it’s a great system, but it has maintenance involved. He hopes the
manufacturer will develop it further.

Mr. Virgilio, thanks to the members of CPWB.

3. Department of Agricultural Resources -Nomination of Inspector of Animals
Nomination for Donald Chicoine. All in favor. Nomination approved.

Meeting is open for Public Comment. No comments.

HEALTH AGENT DISCUSSION

Health Agent Zackary Seabury remarks about the staff undergoing certification.
Assistant Health Agent Sandra Pacheco will be a Certified Pool & Spa Operator (CPO).
