�04%k1M { <br /> Town of Mashpee Shellfish Commission <br /> : z 16 Great Neck Road North <br /> Mashpee,MA 02649 <br /> SHELLFISH COMMISSION <br /> MEETING MINUTES of APRIL 14, 2026—6:OOPM <br /> MASHPEE TOWN HALL— 16 GREAT NECK ROAD NORTH <br /> WAQUOIT MEETING ROOM <br /> PRESENT: Chair,Peter Thomas, Shellfish Constable, Chris Avis, Darryl Christensen and Richard <br /> Cook <br /> ABSENT: Bill Holmes, Dwight Pfundstein, Jamie Pachico and Buddy Pocknett <br /> CALL MEETING TO ORDER: Chair Thomas called the meeting to order in Open Session in the <br /> Waquoit Meeting Room at 6:OOPM. <br /> PUBLIC COMMENT: None. <br /> MINUTES: Discussion and approval of March 10, 2026, Shellfish Commission Meeting minutes. <br /> MOTION: To approve and accept March 10,2026, minutes. <br /> Motion bv: Chris Avis Seconded by: Darryl Christensen <br /> Vote: The Motion passed unanimously. <br /> COMMUNICATIONS AND CORRESPONDENCE: <br /> None discussed. <br /> OLD BUSINESS: <br /> Chair Thomas informed the Commissioners that he spoke to the Harbormaster and asked if there were any <br /> updates regarding the boat ramp. The Harbormaster responded that the subject was still in litigation and no <br /> further updates. <br /> NEW BUSINESS: <br /> Shellfish Constable's Report <br /> • March operations focused on storm recovery, seasonal preparation, and fishery management <br /> • Early-month blizzard required clearing access to facilities; equipment staged and readied for the season <br /> • Nurseries and shellfish stock remained in good condition despite winter conditions <br /> • MNL fishery closed for approximately two weeks following removal of a submerged vehicle as a <br /> precaution for water quality; reopened later in the month with strong participation <br /> • Approximately 300,000-350,000 oysters seeded to support the fishery <br /> • 41 compliance checks conducted during the month <br /> • Ongoing removal of derelict gear from shoreline and subtidal areas <br /> • Seasonal transition completed,including deployment of buoys and updated signage <br /> • All full-time staff completed U.S. Coast Guard BOSAR training with regional partners <br /> • Vessels operational,with one undergoing maintenance <br /> • Shellfish conditions generally strong post-winter <br /> • Kelp farming results mixed;poor performance in some areas likely due to ice impacts, with strong growth <br /> observed in Shoestring Bay <br /> 1 <br />
