IMP. IMBO
d"fr,,{ynr,fw VhP.
w Mashpee lncCusion and-Diversity Committee
16 Great Neck Road -Vorth-
MasGtpee, M-A 02649
Her lanyard was blue, and for the next three days she knew she could approach any red
lanyard and say "tell me what you think", and they knew she was going to listen.
We need to learn how to depolarize ourselves and recognize that we have a polarizer that gets
in the way of these conversations. Politics among families can be hard and can pose conflict at
family gatherings. Some families do not allow political conversation at gatherings.
Nawal Macedo stated she is registered as an Independent, she is educated and can make up
her mind without committing to one color. She comes from a third world country, originally, and
appreciates that she can express her freedoms in America. She mentioned being an
immigrant, and what if her bias and the other person's bias were conflicting, like the person
who was interviewing her hated immigrants and she speaks with an accent. It was answered
the goal is to find some commonality.
Mr. Zefzaf thanked Ms. Burt for her presentation. He thinks that reasonable people disagree,
he doesn't mean to be negative, but some live in fear of being thrown out of their own country.
Ms. Peters appreciated the presentation, and she will be reflecting on that. She asked about
the 1:1 scripted conversation across generations, and she noted a lot of students are not
happy with lower expectations. She works with female students in the schools. She also
mentioned the passing of Reverand Jessie Jackson and the civil rights movement in this
country, and what it took to get into communities, and where we still need to work on things.
Ms. Burt asked the Committee if this was something they would want to offer the larger
community. She will be speaking in March at the Belmont Library, Acton next week, followed by
Duxbury.
Anti-Discrimination /Anti-Harassment Policy Sign-off
Committee members present signed off on the policy.
NEXT MEETING: Tuesday, March 17, 2026 @ 5:OOPM
ADJOURNMENT
MOTION:
Marie Stevenson made a motion to adjourn the meeting of the Inclusion and
Diversity Committee at 6:01 PM. Seconded by Dan Kupferman. All in favor.
5
