IMP. IMBO
d"fr,,{ynr,fw VhP.
w Mashpee lncCusion and'Diversity Committee
16 Great Neck Road -Vort(-
MasGtpee, M-A 02649
The article on Veterans was released Wednesday on the web, and Friday in print, written by
Aphrodite Purdy, with input from Cyndy Jones. The Chair needs to touch base with school
representative Max Nash about a future article on transgenderism.
Mr. Kupferman attempted to search for the article on the internet and could not locate it. This
was strange given the past 5 years every article had been printed.
In looking at the definition of diversity and all the areas we cover in the description of our
Committee, we have touched on all. The Chair is thinking about a concluding column that
summarizes that series of articles, highlighting the authors, as a way to wrap up.
An idea Chair Stevenson had was to compile the articles into a book as a special future
project. This is a way to gather how meaningful the column turned out to be for those who
wrote about their experiences. Now, how do we go forward with the column?
Ms. Stevenson suggested maybe we transition to the topics of equity, inclusion, or belonging.
At some point, she would like a Committee member to take over the responsibility of the
column. There was suggestion that Mr. Zefzaf would take over.
Mr. Kupferman commented it has been great having this column to highlight MIDC, and it was
great rotating around with the different experiences and perspectives, that's what it should be
about. They will eventually talk about their strategic plan, and keep the community informed
with what they are doing. He noted every month recognizes an event or a national holiday that
highlights a marginalized population. With that being said, there is something to write about at
least 9 months out of the year if not all 12. That was the approach he took when he was
managing the column, but it required a lot of research. He did not know this stuff, but as MIDC,
it is their job to raise people's consciousness.
Mr. Zefzaf thinks the column should go in a different direction; in his opinion, the angles have
to be different. However, he would be happy to donate a contribution but is not willing to
assume control.
The Chair stated there is a lot of behind the scenes that must be done when working with the
authors and the editor of the paper. If the column is to continue, someone needs to take
charge, or it can be split up. She just wanted the Committee to be aware that we are at the
close of this series, and we need to focus our efforts on our next venture.
2
