MASHPEE CULTURAL COUNCIL
MINUTES DECEMBER 17, 2025
MASIIPEE SENIOR CENTER, CONFERENCE ROOM
PRESENT: Wendy Bornstein, Pamela Joseph, Celeste Kramer, Alison Machado, Rochelle St.
John, Diane Scott, 1,ce Smith. Not present: Diane Brace, Janet Wright.
CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order by Chair L. Smith at 2:02 PM. A quorum was present.
COMMENT
There was no public comment.
MINUTES
The minutes of the meeting of November 17, 2025, were unanimously APPROVED on motion
of C. Kramer, seconded by D. Scott,
OLD BUSINESS
There was no old business.
NEW BUSINESS
Reconsideration of Grant Application
The Massachusetts Cultural Council approved the request of IIUAH Mothers Path to Ancestors,
Inc., for reconsideration of its application funding of Indigenous Peoples Day Newton. The
Mashpee Cultural Council denied the application based on lack of a local sponsor and lack of
direct Mashpee benefit. Council members considered the new information provided by the
applicant, including a video that showed that many Mashpee Wampanoag residents participate in
this program. Council members agreed that there is sufficient local benefit to award a grant to
this program and to adjust the amounts of the previous grant awards accordingly. On motion of
W. Bornstein, seconded by D. Scott, it was unanimously VOTED to approve 17 grants, including
the Indigenous Peoples Day, in the total amount of$6200.
ADJOURNMENT
On motion by D. Scott, seconded by C. Kramer, it was unanimously VOTED to adjourn.
Meeting adjourned at 2:43 PM.
Respectfully submitted,
Pamela Joseph, Secretary
