Town of Mashpee Shellfish Commission <br /> 16 Great Neck Road North <br /> Mashpee,MA 02649 <br /> SHELLFISH COMMISSION <br /> MEETING MINUTES of MAY 12, 2026—6:OOPM <br /> MASHPEE TOWN HALL— 16 GREAT NECK ROAD NORTH <br /> WAQUOIT MEETING ROOM <br /> PRESENT: Chair Peter Thomas, Shellfish Constable Chris Avis, Vice Chair Richard Cook, Clerk <br /> Darryl Christensen, and Associate Member Buddy Pocknett <br /> ABSENT: Member Bill Holmes, Associate Members Dwight Pfundstein and Jamie Pachico <br /> CALL MEETING TO ORDER: Chair Thomas called the meeting to order in Open Session in the <br /> Waquoit Meeting Room at 6:02PM. <br /> PUBLIC COMMENT: None. <br /> MINUTES: Discussion and approval of April 14, 2026, Shellfish Commission Meeting minutes. <br /> MOTION: To approve and accept April 14, 2026, minutes. <br /> Motion by: Chris Avis Seconded bv: Darryl Christensen <br /> Vote: The Motion passed unanimously. <br /> COMMUNICATIONS AND CORRESPONDENCE: <br /> None discussed. <br /> OLD BUSINESS: <br /> None discussed. <br /> NEW BUSINESS: <br /> Shellfish Constable's Report <br /> Seasonal Closures: <br /> • Effective April 1, 2026, all Division of Marine Fisheries seasonal closure areas were closed, <br /> including Ockway Bay, Gooseberry Island, New Seabury Marina, Little River, Upper Great <br /> River, Jelin Pond, and Hamblin Pond. <br /> • Signage, maps, and website inforination were updated. <br /> Operations: <br /> • On April 7, 2026, the Department hosted an AmeriCorps project day. <br /> • Two vessels were deployed and IS derelict bottom trays were removed from the Mashpee River <br /> and transported to the Department's storage facility on Red Brook Road. <br /> Seed Orders and Staffing: <br /> • All shellfish seed orders were confirmed, including 3 million quahogs, 260,000 oyster seed, and <br /> 50,000 soft-shell clams, with delivery dependent upon hatchery availability. <br /> • Four seasonal employees would be returning for the season and offers were extended to two new <br /> candidates. <br /> 1 <br />
