FINCOM-Regular Session August 6,2026 Richard Klein, member of the CPC, discussed the recent acquisition of 475 Nathan Ellis Highway by the Friends of Wildlife for approximately $3 million. He described the property as an important conservation parcel and explained that there are plans to develop three apartments, a visitor center for the Mashpee Wildlife Center, recreational and educational space, and pollinator gardens where elementary school students could participate in planting activities. Klein noted that the property was acquired approximately two years ago and that much of the time since has been spent on site planning, architectural work, permitting, and understanding environmental restrictions. FINCOM Members also discussed the freshwater ponds diagnostic study and the shared regional housing service. It was explained that the Freshwater Ponds Committee requested the diagnostic study, with the wastewater coordinator expected to be responsible for the project. The shared regional housing service is a county program intended to assist municipalities with a?ordable housing through coordinated e?orts and access to consultants. Klein explained that the CPC had been asked to fund approximately three- quarters of the program, with the A?ordable Housing Trust covering the remaining quarter. The CPC determined that another funding source may be available and noted that this was the second time the committee had been asked to contribute to the program.
