MA 02649 <br /> FINANCE COMMITTEE MINUTES <br /> Town Ball <br /> February 28, 1989 <br /> Present ; Edward Dolan , Carole Dunivan , John Ferriday , Tony Gallo , <br /> Carl Heller , and William Towner <br /> The Finance Committee convened at 7 p . m. The Chairman <br /> informed the members that there had been a nomination for the <br /> vacant seat on the Finance Committee . The nomination will be <br /> discussed with the Selectmen at the next Finance Committee meeting <br /> March 1st . <br /> Anne Shaw the Treasurer/Tax Collector joined the meeting to <br /> address her FY90 budget . Carl expressed his concern that if the <br /> town continues to override and exempt the town will be in a <br /> terrible debt position . Anne noted that at present the rating <br /> Iis not in danger . Anne expressed her personal feelings that the <br /> town has little parcels of land that could and should be sold . <br /> She noted that she will make available to the Finance Committee <br /> a spread sheet illustrating the town debt . She noted that the <br /> County Retirement FY90 request had not yet been determined . <br /> When questioned about the 5% cost of living request for her <br /> salary , she informed the Committee that that was all she was <br /> seeking . The Finance Committee noted that the rest of the <br /> Treasurer/Tax Collector budget seemed in order and they had no <br /> problems with the request . The Finance Committee stated that <br /> no decisions on budgets would be rendered till next week . <br /> The Committee proceeded to review a Request for Transfer submitted <br /> by Anne for $1 , 000 to - be transferred to Treasurer ' s Wages . The <br /> present appropriation balance is $427 . 88 . This $1 , 000 would be <br /> for temporary help to get out 2nd half tax bills , motor vehicle <br /> excise bills and to post collections of said bills ; and overtime <br /> for staff to get out second half bills . This Request for <br /> Transfer received unanimous approval noting that the promptness <br /> of billing has greatly improved and this would be money well <br /> invested . <br /> Ernie Virgilio the DPW Director joined the meeting to discuss <br /> the FY90 DPW budget . Ernie defended his $10 , 000 request for the <br /> cemetery account noting that $1 , 000 was needed for building repair . <br /> He informed the Committee that the Historic Commission would like <br /> the building but it was still in need of repair from damage done <br /> by raccoons . The Committee discussed the DPW Municipal Building <br /> Account . Ernie noted he is not sure how building maintenance <br />
