Vote— unanimous <br /> for approval. <br /> Public Comment: (none) <br /> Peter Thomas made a motion to postpone other agenda items and move to <br /> Richard Cook's Shellfish License Application. It was seconded by Richard York. <br /> Vote: Unanimous in favor. <br /> Old business <br /> Richard Cook Shellfish Aquaculture License (Grant) — <br /> Copies of Richard Cook's Shellfish Aquaculture License Application, letter to the <br /> Board of Selectmen, and map for the proposed one acre site in Popponesset Bay <br /> were distributed. A detailed discussion of the proposal with questions, answers <br /> and comments followed. Relevant discussion is paraphrased as follows: <br /> Steven Bell -What is the access to the site? Richard Cook—Access is by boat <br /> from Ockway Bay Landing. Bell - How will boat traffic in the area be affected? <br /> Cook—The Waterways Commission reviewed that. Boats can only go slow and <br /> waterskiing is not allowed within 150' of shore. The grant would be within 150' of <br /> shore. Bell—What about gear drifting away. Cook— I will be responsible to <br /> remove it. Leslie Caffyn— How many cages will there be and how far apart will <br /> they be? Cook— Up to 3,000 cages and about 2' spacing. Caffyn- What will you <br /> do with dead oysters? Cook— I will take them Rome and put the shells in my <br /> yard. Caffyn— How do you secure the cages? Cook—They are heavy and stay <br /> on the bottom. Caffyn —What if a storm puts them on my property? Cook—I will <br /> remove them. Caffyn — How soon? Cook- as soon as possible. York--The <br /> Mashpee Shellfish Aquaculture Regulations state that the aquaculture license <br /> holder is responsible for any gear that washes away from the site any shall <br /> remove it as soon as possible.
