All openings in bearing partitions <br /> shall have double headers framed as required in exterior openings . 3 . Top <br /> Plates for bearing partitions shall be 'doubled. <br /> Para. 15 . Notching of Timbers : Notching of joists to facilitate the <br /> installation of pipes and ducts may be permitted with the following in- <br /> stallation s : 1. Top and bottom edges may be notched not to exceed one sixth <br /> of the joist depth. Notching will not be permitted in middle third of any <br /> joist span. 2 .
