Tow„ of Mashpee -4- May 5, 1976 <br /> 9/26/74 Indian Museum Checking Account 100.00 <br /> 11/12/74 Amelia Bingham personal check 160.00 <br /> 12/23/74 100.00 <br /> 4/30/75 100.00 <br /> 5/ 7/75 Unable ,to determine 15.18 <br /> ,'• <br /> $12600.00 <br /> I The sources of the preceding payments and subsequent questioning of <br /> e� <br /> Mrs. Amelia Bingham, the director of the Museum, brought out the follow- <br /> f <br /> t j <br /> s <br /> ing details. <br /> jJt- <br /> Mrs. Bingham authorized the printing company to print the 5,000 books <br /> without approval from the Town of Mashpee. <br /> The printing company sent bills for these books to Mashpee Historical <br /> c/o Mrs. Amelia Bingham. <br /> According to Mrs Bingham, payments made out of the Indian Museum checking <br /> account represented amounts collected for books sold. However as previously <br /> noted, the records of the Museum showed receipts for only 242 books while <br /> payment was made out of the Museum Funds for approximately 2600 books. V <br /> Mrs. Bingham stated that she felt that ownership of the books was vested in <br /> her and that the Museum checking account was merely used to collect receipts iIL:�-+ ' <br /> V <br /> for the books and transfer these receipts to the printer in payment of <br /> printing costs. Mrs. Bingham further stated that these books were turned <br /> over to a distributor who distributes them both on and off of Cape Cod <br /> and then remits the money to her. ' <br /> The printing company subsequently informed the town office by phone that <br /> there had never been any formal contract for the printing of these books and <br /> that all arrangements had been made verbally with Mrs. Bingham. <br /> The ownership of this book has not been established at this time and <br /> must be at some future date in order to determine whether the Town of Mashpee <br /> has an asset in the books that are presently in the hands of the distributor, <br /> Tales of Cape Cod. <br /> After completing the examination of the Museum records at the office of <br /> the Town of Mashpee, a meeting was held at the home of Amelia Bingham. <br /> Present at that meeting were Amelia Bingham; Frank Hicks, executive secretary; <br /> Agnes Gorton, secretary to Mrs. Bingham; Marie Fitzgerald, recording secretary; <br /> and myself.
