"I think there <br /> should be some protection from workers and children and by segregating smoking and <br /> non-smoking areas we make about as good and practical an effort as we are going to get." <br /> Mr. Cram stated, "In my opinion, I have no problem with the regulations as they <br /> exist." <br /> Mr. Doherty commented, "Our regulations were done in cooperation with the <br /> business community." "We encouraged them to participate in the process." <br /> Mr. Cram stated, "We are giving people choices at this point, we are not <br /> dictating." "The regional program is dictating 100%'all the way." "When I say a vote, <br /> I'm saying a vote amongst the people in town - whether they want the regional program <br /> or whether they want to keep the local regulations in effect now." <br /> Mr. Doherty commented, "That bothers me, putting it out to the voters as it may <br /> be opening up a can of worms." "We have the authority." "If we pass it off to the voters <br /> than that authority can be challenged in other areas as well." "I would rather see the <br /> Board take a responsible position." "The coalition set a very unreasonable date and are <br /> setting themselves up for failure." "I agree with the regulation as it stands however, it <br /> should be reviewed annually and where appropriate amendments should be made as <br /> needed." <br /> Mr. Ball stated, "This coming March we will review the regulation." "I would <br /> recommend we direct the asst. agent to notify the Chamber of Commerce and local retail <br /> and food establishments of our upcoming review and request their comments." <br /> Board members agreed. <br /> Mr. Doherty stated, "I would recommend we direct our representative to voice the <br /> Board's opinion that the November 1 st deadline is premature and unrealistic." <br /> Board members agreed. <br /> Mr. Ball directed the asst. agent to notify the Board of the restaurant owners <br /> comments in two weeks. <br /> Meeting with D.E.P., 1/31/95 - Regarding Landfill Closure <br /> Mr. McQuaid relayed, "We have been reclassified from a significant threat to a <br /> potential threat." "The deadline for closure of our landfill is October, 1997." <br />
