It was further noted that the Chamber of Commerce is
investigating signage in Mashpee. EDC supports recognition
of the North Mashpee area as a cluster village, but it does
not support signage since the DPW and the police department
feel signs are a safety hazard and a maintenance problem.
Wayne is working on a PWED grant to acquire funds for infra
structure improvements in Mashpee ( i .e. sidewalks , bikeways ,
etc. ) . Wayne will be working with Tom Cahir' s office, and he
will meet with Tom Fudala and Greg Taylor this Friday to discuss
projects that can be included in the application. Paul Reynolds
suggested adding sidewalks along Old Barnstable Road near the
new high school which could save on bus transportation costs.
Wayne stated that Mashpee is on the Webb "notice page" which
posts scheduled meetings and hearings. Tom Potts suggested
putting this information on the library system. Paul Reynolds
suggested giving an info packet which includes the Guide to
Business to the Boston Globe and the New England Journal.
The business cards purchase and approval of the Work Program
were deferred.
A hearing on the Industrial Park is scheduled for July 25 , 1996
at 7: 00 p.m. at the Senior Center, and EDC attendance and support
is encouraged.
A seminar on the Otis clean up is scheduled for July 31 , 1996 ,
and local contractors are encouraged to attend.
Wayne stated that volunteer assistants will be utilized in the
EDC Coordinator ' s office rather than hire Mary Gelsthorpe' for
additional hours. Senior citizen volunteers can get credits
towards their property taxes if they are "income qualified. "
Wayne' s daughter will volunteer as an unpaid assistant as part
of her senior year work program.
Wayne contacted the Titleist Company and learned they are looking
for locations for expansion, most likely in warmer climates.
Wayne spoke with Pat Pry, the manager of Mashpee ' s Chamber of
Commerce, and asked that EDC be put on the Chamber ' s meeting
agenda. He plans to meet with Pat next week to brainstorm
marketing strategies.
The EDC coordinator interviews are scheduled for Thursday, July
18th, beginning at 9: 00 a.m. at the DPW building. There are
three candidates, and Wayne is .one of them. Steve Kyros
volunteered to be an interviewer along with the Personnel Board
and Bob Whritenour.
-2-
