ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE MINUTES <br /> JULY 16, 1996 <br /> Paul Reynolds called the EDC meeting to order at 7 :10 p.m. at <br /> the Senior Center. <br /> Members present: Paul Reynolds, Gloria Dube , Stephen Kyros. <br /> Alternate members present : Cynthia Green, Steven Innis, Sharon <br /> Koblinsky , Tom Potts . <br /> Also present: Wayne Duchemin, EDC Coordinator <br /> Steve Milton, Renato Borja, and Joy Borja <br /> Steve Milton, Renato and Joy Borja were present to learn about <br /> EDC' s mentor program and how to write a business plan and obtain <br /> financial assistance. Steve Innis stated there will be a <br /> 10-week class offered in Hyannis for unemployed and/or dislocated <br /> persons interested in running their own business . It is <br /> sponsored by the Southeastern Massachusetts Partnership. EDC <br /> will offer a similar program on a smaller scale, and Steve Innis <br /> will spearhead this effort since he is in the business of helping <br /> people write a business plan. The focus will be to help <br /> residents establish a business in Mashpee and promote Mashpee ' s <br /> pro-business environment. Wayne Duchemin stated there may be <br /> financial assistance through the Cape Cod Economic Development <br /> Council and the SEED Program. Wayne offered to do a data search <br /> of available Mashpee properties that would be appropriate to <br /> locate their tailoring/alterations business . EDC encouraged <br /> them to locate in Mashpee and work with EDC in setting up their <br /> new business. <br /> The Minutes of June 25 , 1996 and nominations for officers FY97 <br /> were tabled. <br /> The Mashpee Environmental Coalition is meeting on July 21 , 1996 <br /> from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. at the Senior Center to discuss their <br /> concern about the over-development of Mashpee. Sharon Koblinsky <br /> recommended that a liaison from EDC work with this group, a <br /> recommendation in the Partnership Report. Wayne will write <br /> them a letter offering EDC' s cooperation to mediate problems <br /> and invite them to attend our meetings. <br /> The Board of Selectmen asked for EDC' s recommendation about <br /> Roger and Carole Dunivan ' s request to erect signs at the Mashpee <br /> Rotary and at the Route 28 and Routes 130 junction advertising <br /> businesses located in North Mashpee. Paul Reynolds and Bob <br /> Whritenour have reviewed this issue, and presently signs are <br /> being evaluated by a signage sub committee as to size , <br /> lumination, location, etc. , and a policy will be ready for the <br /> October Town meeting vote. It was recommended that no action <br /> from EDC be taken and defer this to the Town Administrator. <br />
