ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT PARTNERSHIP MINUTES <br /> FEBRUARY 27, 1996 <br /> Members Present: Ted Lewis , Tom Potts , Paul Reynolds , <br /> Steve Innis, James O' Connell, Tom Fudala, Peter Dinizio. <br /> Also Present: Wayne Duchemin, Beth Siegel , Devon Winey. <br /> The meeting was called to order at 7: 10 p.m. by Tom Potts . <br /> The Mt. Auburn draft report was open for discussion. Wayne <br /> Duchemin and Tom Fudala submitted written comments to Mt. Auburn <br /> of changes and additions. Augat will be Phased out in September <br /> 1996, and the report should be adjusted to state this was the <br /> condition when the project started and now the new development. <br /> Paul Reynolds asked about the names and numbers of those affected <br /> so as not to reinvent the wheel; there are 260 people effected. <br /> Tom Potts suggested attracting a business from the Rte. 495 <br /> area who is also a summer resident on. Cape Cod. Tom <br /> Pott ' s supported continuation of the Coordinator and the <br /> Partnership. Wayne stated the focus should be on EDC; Tom Fudala <br /> suggested combining the two. Beth Siegel suggested broadening <br /> EDC; Devon Winey suggested getting People to serve on sub <br /> committees. There is a problem with getting attendance at the <br /> Partnership meetings . Beth stated EDC should engage the tribal <br /> council. Beth suggested recruiting members who reflect the <br /> Mashpee Community and convince people it is broader based and <br /> change the public perception. Tom Fudala asked if a Community <br /> Development Corp. is worth considering. Beth stated there are <br /> benefits to getting a non profit organization started by <br /> residents , i.e. helpful for affordable housing and economic <br /> development. Losing Augat . makes this an organizing opportunity. <br /> Tom Fudala asked about some issues he needs to address in the <br /> Report, such as the survey . Devon stated that EDC haulted an <br /> extensive survey , so they did an anecdotal with no hard data. <br /> They were not as informed as they had hoped. The survey is <br /> very sketchy and not specifically Mashpee. It was done on a <br /> small scale and not really reliable. Mt. Auburn tried to get <br /> the information, and everything they collected will be reflected <br /> in the Report. Tom Fudala stated the focus was to be on the <br /> unemployed and how to get them employed. Beth asked for the <br /> data on the employment pool, and they will add it to the Report. <br /> Beth noted that the people' s focus was on crime. <br /> Paul Reynolds requested Mt. Auburn go into depth and detail <br /> about the entrepreneurial program for the new high school with <br /> supporting data and citing examples from other high schools <br /> and their curriculum, acquiring staff via referrals , etc. Paul <br /> noted the way the Culinary Institute was handled was good with <br /> all the suggestions , etc . and would like a similar treatment <br /> for entrepreneurial. This` is important since the majority of <br /> Mashpee graduates go no further than high school . Wayne is <br />
