MASHPEE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT/INDUSTRIAL CORPORATION MINUTES
APRIL 15, 2008
Present: Joe Noonan, Rene Read, Robyn,Simmons, Mary LeClair, Terrie Cook.
Bob Cobuzzi on teleconference call. Brian Kehrl (Mashpee Enterprise)
Joe Noonan chaired and opened the meeting at 6:00 p.m. Rene was asked to add the new
member, Joe Anastos,to the web site and enlarge the font.
The Minutes of March 18, 2008 were approved as amended.
Joe will draft a letter of intent for a Cape Cod Economic Council grant asking for funding for a
one-year Director position ranging $10,000 to $25,000, 19 hours a week. He will circulate the
draft for member input. A Director could be the liaison to the Cape Cod Commission and could
work from home on the computer.
Robyn Simmons will be a liaison for us and will talk to the Chairperson of the Cape Cod
Commission Paul Neidzwicki informally to acquire some information about the 2.7 acres in the
Industrial Park.
Joe stated we need to focus on two accomplishments for the June Report: Talking to the Cape
Cod Commission and acquiring a grant. We have a progress report from last year. Mary LeClair
suggested that we have a strategic plan.
Joe had hoped Town Planner Tom Fudala would identify certain properties (from the tax-taking
list) ideal for sale or auctioning off. For example, there is a parcel abutting the Quashnet County
Club. It would have to be auctioned off, and Joe discussed options for auctioning. Terrie
suggested that a sub-committee identify properties and bring them to the full committee for a
vote to put on a Town Article. The list needs to be shortened by eliminating the
conservation/wetlands and those not ideal for building. Joe will mark the ones he is interested in
pursuing and will send to the Committee.
Joe received a letter from Jamie Coughlin about building a new sport complex. There really is
no room in the Industrial Park for a sport complex. Rene will get a copy of the letter to everyone
to review. Terrie noted this has been suggested several times over the years, and that it is hard to
make a profit because it includes an ice arena.
Tasks to report on for the next meeting: Robyn will talk to Paul N; Joe will reduce the list of
tax-taking properties with his choices and start a draft letter for a grant; Rene will provide a map
for two parcels.
Meeting Schedule: Rene will not be available May 201h to attend our meeting. Change the June
17`h meeting to June 24h. The meeting adjourned 6:40 p.m.
Mary Gelsthorpe, Recording Secretary
