He felt that he did
not give a specific number of children when referring to the amount
of children in each classroom. Sentence was stricken from the
minutes. The members noted the correction. The members also
indicated a name correction. The name Alec Matt was used
throughout the document. His correct name is Alec Watt. Members
noted this correction also.
The School Building Needs Committee Members were present at the
meeting, as well as, Dr. Lincoln DeMoura, Superintendent of Schools
and Carole Dunivan, School Committee member.
The members discussed some of the issues that were still unclear to
them. Deidre Greelish stated that she would like to discuss the
overcrowding problem. It appeared to her that the kindergarten
children were being counted as full time students when they only
attend school for half day sessions. She still felt that there was
not an emergency situation at hand. Ed Baker indicated that he had
two problems. one problem was the same concern Deidre Greelish
had, the overcrowding situation and its urgency and the second
problem was the eventual conversion to a Jr/Sr. High School. He
mentioned the projections for 1996 and felt that we would not have
enough students to fill the school. Ed Baker's suggestion was,
that we think about a vocational school eligible to Mashpee
residents. Al Polsi stated he would like the members to look at
the Fiscal Policy and the Ten Year Plan. He did not feel the
School Building Needs Committee had reviewed this policy. He felt
one concern they did not look at, was the fact that the town should
not exceed 3 ,000,000.00 in costs in any given year.
