Personnel Board
Minutes of November 29, 1982 Page 3
Education Fund, cont.
• Manuel commented that he would like to see a program have a tie-in with the
individual so that dollars are tied into the, program as he does not want employee
to take the course on a whim. Curtis said that he agreed with Manuel's sugges-
tion and commented that the money could be received up front with reimbursement
to the employee upon completion of the course. Joe said that he could justify
an employee paying a certain amount if there was going to be a professional in-
structor; however, there would not be. Caroline said that she felt it was an
incentive if the employee had to pay up front.
Joe said that he would take guidelines from the Committee and try to work up some-
thing.
Manuel commented that the town should educate those who they are sure are going to
stay in their employ.
Sick Time - Patrolman MacDonald
In a request dated November 15, 1982, Chief Frye is asking the Personnel Board to
approve his action of ordering Patrolman MacDonald to obtain a doctor's certificate
for his sick day of November 10, 1982. Upon a review of Patrolman MacDonald's sick
day record, the Personnel Board was in unanimous agreement with the Chief's decision
to have Patrolman MacDonald obtain a doctor's certificate for his most recent sick
day.
• Correspondence for Employee's Files
The Personnel Board received a letter for Detective Cooper's personnel file and
Detective Fish's personnel file regarding their part in giving testimony for the
United States Government in a currency-drug smuggling conspiracy trial. Bob asked
that each of the two employees be sent a letter telling them that the Personnel
Board is pleased with their work and proud of them as well as the whole department.
Encumbered Funds
A memo from the Town Accountant requesting to be advised of Encumbered Funds was
received. Due to the Executive Secretary being unable to clear up his situation
with the former Boston State College, the Accountant's office will be notified to
return the funds which were encumbered to the Treasurer.
Insurance Forms
Forms for reports on accidents were received and will be kept on file as well as
a memo from the Executive Secretary advising all departments of the procedure to
follow in the event of an employee injury.
Sick Time - Oliver Pocknett
Curtis Woodbury requested the secretary to check into the sick time of Oliver
Pocknett and to find out when the Board will receive a doctor's certificate on his
absence. The Board was in unanimous agreement with Curtis's request.
• Bob requested the secretary to buy get well cards to send to employee's when they
are out sick for a period of time.
