MINUTES <br />LEISURE SERVICE ADVISORY COMMITTEE <br />MAY 17, 1994 <br />Committee members present: Also present: <br />Maureen Paxton, Chairman Gus Frederick, Director <br />Linda Young Gordon Harris, Yth Comm <br />Elisa Meunier <br />Ron Roberts Absent: <br />Maryanne Gibbs (excused) <br />Nancy Caffyn <br />Before the meeting was called to order, the Committee met at 6:00 pm to <br />tour some of the present town recreational facilities - Heritage Park & Attaquin <br />Park. It was recommended that the department look at improving the facilities <br />at both locations. <br />A proposed map was distributed regarding Heritage Park to include <br />additional ball fields, Tennis Courts, jogging trails, etc., An overall plan <br />should be established working with various youth groups in town who utilize <br />these facilities. In addition, it was recommended that the department work <br />with the DPW and other agencies in removing the old foundation located at the <br />park. <br />After viewing the area of Attaquin Park, it was suggested that, 1) the area <br />be cleaned up of debris left from this past Winter; 2) that an inventory of the <br />playground and cookout equipment be made, and updated; 3) beach rules /regs <br />signs be errected and placed in strategic areas, including no alcohol; and 4) an <br />attempt be made to increase and promote youth programming at the park, <br />I. OPENING OF MEETING <br />After returning from the tour, the meeting was officially opened at 7:35pm by <br />Maureen Paxton. <br />II. SECRETARY'S REPORT - Linda Young made a motion to approve the <br />minutes of the April meeting. Elisa seconded this motion. Motion carried. <br />III. COMMUNICATIONS <br />A. WILLOWBEND GRANT <br />Leisure Service Director, Gus Frederick, had been contacted by <br />Willowbend Children's Charity regarding a request for a grant totalling $10,000 <br />from Mashpee Child Development Program (now Kids Klub Pre-school), which <br />had been made last year, but no breakdown given. An indepth request was <br />made to Willowbend and submitted, but we were denied this request at their <br />last meeting on May 13, 1994. <br />After talking with Selectman Judy Mills, who is also on the <br />Willowbend Committee, it was felt that another request be made for this <br />
