LEISURE SERVICES ADVISORY COUNCIL MEETING <br />June 21, 1994 <br />Present: bsent: Also Present: <br />Maureen Paxton Ronald Roberts Gus Frederick <br />Linda Young Nancy Caffyn <br />Elisa Meunier <br />MaryAnne Gibbs <br />Qpening of Meeting <br />Maureen Paxton opened the meeting at 7:10 PM at the Mashpee Middle School <br />Library. <br />i .• <br />Linda Young made a motion to approve the minutes of May 17, 1994. Maureen <br />seconded the motion. Motion carried. <br />III. Communications - <br />Gus discussed with the members the problems of scheduling the use of facilities. <br />We put in a schedule and Dr. DeMoura approves it. Marge sends copies over to the <br />school. However, we hever get sufficient time when there is a schedule change. Many <br />times we discover by accident that some other activity is being held at the school. We <br />have lost a great number of gymnastic students because of all the changes, and <br />gymnastics may not return in September. <br />MaryAnne said that with the new principal she feels scheduling can be worked <br />out. MaryAnne said that because we have the use of the school more evenings, there are <br />going to be more conflicts with the scheduling. <br />Gus asked that members review the By -Laws. Maureen said that any changes <br />have to be approved by the Selectmen. <br />A brief discussion took place regarding the Community School fund. Money may <br />be in the fund that was deposted when Leisure Service was a department. MaryAnne <br />suggested that a meeting be scheduled with Dr. DeMoura and Diane Rommelmeyer. She <br />mentioned that G.E.D. may be one of those classes that would be directly related to <br />education as well as our CNA Class. <br />The Summer program the Middle School is running was disucssed. MaryAnne fel <br />that a summer school program would be beneficial to help those students who need som <br />extra help in certain areas of education. <br />Gus would like to meet with the new principal during the summer regarding <br />scheduling. <br />IV. Reports - <br />A. Old Business - <br />1. High School/ Community Center U ate - Gus reported that the design of the <br />school will include a swimming pool, but that the majority of members on the <br />building committe are not in favor having a pool. The pool issue will be brought <br />to town meeting in October. The Architects are putting together cost of <br />construction and operating costs. <br />2. Human Services - Gus discussed have a health weekend in the fall and hold <br />this in the gym. <br />
