LEISURE SERVICES ADVISORY COUNCIL MEETING June 21, 1994 Present: bsent: Also Present: Maureen Paxton Ronald Roberts Gus Frederick Linda Young Nancy Caffyn Elisa Meunier MaryAnne Gibbs Qpening of Meeting Maureen Paxton opened the meeting at 7:10 PM at the Mashpee Middle School Library. i .• Linda Young made a motion to approve the minutes of May 17, 1994. Maureen seconded the motion. Motion carried. III. Communications - Gus discussed with the members the problems of scheduling the use of facilities. We put in a schedule and Dr. DeMoura approves it. Marge sends copies over to the school. However, we hever get sufficient time when there is a schedule change. Many times we discover by accident that some other activity is being held at the school. We have lost a great number of gymnastic students because of all the changes, and gymnastics may not return in September. MaryAnne said that with the new principal she feels scheduling can be worked out. MaryAnne said that because we have the use of the school more evenings, there are going to be more conflicts with the scheduling. Gus asked that members review the By -Laws. Maureen said that any changes have to be approved by the Selectmen. A brief discussion took place regarding the Community School fund. Money may be in the fund that was deposted when Leisure Service was a department. MaryAnne suggested that a meeting be scheduled with Dr. DeMoura and Diane Rommelmeyer. She mentioned that G.E.D. may be one of those classes that would be directly related to education as well as our CNA Class. The Summer program the Middle School is running was disucssed. MaryAnne fel that a summer school program would be beneficial to help those students who need som extra help in certain areas of education. Gus would like to meet with the new principal during the summer regarding scheduling. IV. Reports - A. Old Business - 1. High School/ Community Center U ate - Gus reported that the design of the school will include a swimming pool, but that the majority of members on the building committe are not in favor having a pool. The pool issue will be brought to town meeting in October. The Architects are putting together cost of construction and operating costs. 2. Human Services - Gus discussed have a health weekend in the fall and hold this in the gym.
