LEISURE SERVICES ADVISORY COUNCIL MEETING FEBRUARY 7. 1996 MASHPEE MIDDLE SCHOOL - CONFERENCE ROOM Present: Maureen Panton Linda Young Pat Riley Kim Whitney Terrie Cook Sheila Arnold Absent: George Costa Ron Roberts Also Present: Gus Frederick Niki Mills Nick Feldman OPENING OF MEETING - Maureen Paxton opened the meeting at 6:30 PM at the Mashpee Middle School Room 133. II. SECRETARY'S REPORT- Pat Riley made a motion to approve the Minutes of January 23, 1996. Linda Young seconded. Motion carried. III. COMMUNICATIONS - Gus passed out a memo regarding landfill capping. Gus discussed how active or passive use of capped landfill area could be used. Such as additional soccer or baseball fields, par 3 golf course, water park. Many towns use this to offset tax rates. IV. REPORTS - A. OLD BUSINESS 1. Capital Improvement Plan - A meeting is scheduled for 3:30 PM next Tuesday, February 13th. Three items to be discussed are (1) Bus - Gus mentioned he spoke with Joe DiMaggio regarding purchasing a bus. The buses DiMaggio had have been sold to a bus company in Indiana (2) Purchase of a van. Next week Gus will call to get figures on a van. Linda Young asked what the capacity was for a van. Gus indicated approximately 15 passengers. (3)- Expansion of Rec Bldg. - Gus will be meeting with Peg Geary's group to finalize layout. 2. Programming - Gus passed out spread sheet of updated Fall and Winter Income and Expenses. Gus explained that figures look higher the beginning of each month. Gus stated that he received a printout from the Accounting Department for Fiscal Year 1995. We showed Income of $123,345.00 and expenses of $123,440.00. The first year Gus was here the Revolving Account showed income of $26,000.00. A brief discussion on the income and expenses of the programs took place. Maureen Paxton suggested she would like to see more Adult Education Classes. Maureen suggested keeping adult programs in a separate flier. Perhaps mailing them out. Gus mentioned a separate brochure for child care is being developed. Gus said that CNA is being planned, but we are still searching for an instructor. We also hope with the availability of the high school computers, we will be able to offer more computer classes. Niki Mills gave an update on the Teen Center activities. She said that 72 students came to the last Teen Center night. There will be a dance March 22nd. This Friday will be movie night. Gus mentioned that another pool table had been donated and the shuffle board table had been refinished. There will be a meeting coming up
