LEISURE SERVICES ADVISORY COUNCIL MEETING <br />FEBRUARY 7. 1996 <br />MASHPEE MIDDLE SCHOOL - CONFERENCE ROOM <br />Present: <br />Maureen Panton <br />Linda Young <br />Pat Riley <br />Kim Whitney <br />Terrie Cook <br />Sheila Arnold <br />Absent: <br />George Costa <br />Ron Roberts <br />Also Present: <br />Gus Frederick <br />Niki Mills <br />Nick Feldman <br />OPENING OF MEETING - Maureen Paxton opened the meeting at 6:30 PM at the <br />Mashpee Middle School Room 133. <br />II. SECRETARY'S REPORT- Pat Riley made a motion to approve the Minutes of January <br />23, 1996. Linda Young seconded. Motion carried. <br />III. COMMUNICATIONS - Gus passed out a memo regarding landfill capping. Gus <br />discussed how active or passive use of capped landfill area could be used. Such as <br />additional soccer or baseball fields, par 3 golf course, water park. Many towns use <br />this to offset tax rates. <br />IV. REPORTS - <br />A. OLD BUSINESS <br />1. Capital Improvement Plan - A meeting is scheduled for 3:30 PM next Tuesday, <br />February 13th. Three items to be discussed are (1) Bus - Gus mentioned he spoke <br />with Joe DiMaggio regarding purchasing a bus. The buses DiMaggio had have been <br />sold to a bus company in Indiana (2) Purchase of a van. Next week Gus will call to <br />get figures on a van. Linda Young asked what the capacity was for a van. Gus <br />indicated approximately 15 passengers. (3)- Expansion of Rec Bldg. - Gus will be <br />meeting with Peg Geary's group to finalize layout. <br />2. Programming - Gus passed out spread sheet of updated Fall and Winter Income <br />and Expenses. Gus explained that figures look higher the beginning of each <br />month. Gus stated that he received a printout from the Accounting Department <br />for Fiscal Year 1995. We showed Income of $123,345.00 and expenses of $123,440.00. <br />The first year Gus was here the Revolving Account showed income of $26,000.00. <br />A brief discussion on the income and expenses of the programs took place. <br />Maureen Paxton suggested she would like to see more Adult Education Classes. <br />Maureen suggested keeping adult programs in a separate flier. Perhaps mailing <br />them out. Gus mentioned a separate brochure for child care is being developed. <br />Gus said that CNA is being planned, but we are still searching for an instructor. <br />We also hope with the availability of the high school computers, we will be able to <br />offer more computer classes. <br />Niki Mills gave an update on the Teen Center activities. She said that 72 students <br />came to the last Teen Center night. There will be a dance March 22nd. This Friday <br />will be movie night. Gus mentioned that another pool table had been donated and <br />the shuffle board table had been refinished. There will be a meeting coming up <br />
