LEISURE SERVICES ADVISORY COUNCIL MEETING <br />MARCH 5. 1996 <br />MASHPEE MIDDLE SCHOOL - ROOM 133 <br />Present: Absent: Also Present: <br />Maureen Paxton George Costa Gus Frederick <br />Linda Young Ron Roberts John Williams <br />Kim Whitney Cheryl Shepley <br />Terrie Cook <br />Sheila Arnold <br />OPENING OF MEEITNG - Maureen Paxton opened the meeting at 6:35 PM at the <br />Mashpee Middle School Room 133. <br />II. SECRETARY'S REPORT- Pat Riley made a motion to approve the Minutes of <br />February 6, 1996. Linda Young seconded. Motion carried. <br />I11. COMMUNICATIONS - <br />1. Letter from Denattment of Retardation - Gus passed out letter from Department <br />of Retardation. Gus explained that we were awarded a 55,000.00 Grant for inclusion <br />in our department for such programs as Kids Night Out, Kids Klub Pre-school and <br />Afterschool programs. This would enable us to get support staff to service <br />mentally and physically handicapped children. Gus has a meeting with Grace Day <br />to identify individuals who can benefit from this program. KKPS can service an <br />additional 3 children who are special needs; KKAM - 2 children; KKAS - 6 children; <br />KNO - 3 children; Ropes Course - 23 children. An additional $5,000.00 for <br />programming next year - $2,500 needs to be matched by another group - possibly <br />the Coalition. <br />2. Guide to Open Meetine Law - Maureen Paxton mentioned packets regarding <br />Open Meeting law are available at Town Hall. <br />3. A discussion took place on the proposed recycling program at the landfill. We <br />are now going through Bob Sullivan for transfer of Quonset Hut to landfill area. <br />This should happen by this spring. Cheryl Shepley would like to see retired <br />people get involved, along with teachers, and children. Profits could go to the <br />classes. Cheryl had concerns about insurance. Cheryl wanted dates so that she <br />could start to generate interest. Maureen asked how items would be obtained. Gus <br />mentioned he had the name of a gentleman who was interested in this project and <br />he would refer him to Cheryl. Cheryl would like article done in the newspaper to <br />generate awareness. <br />IV. REPORTS - <br />A. Old Business - <br />Discussion <br />1. Capital Improvement Update - Looking for two items for fiscal year 1996 - <br />Transportation - Bus or Van, and Expansion of Rec Building. Both failed. Plan <br />may be brought to the Fall Town meeting to request an override for capital <br />building expansion. Gus would like to look for Grant money for the building <br />expansion. <br />
