L% r v/< LEISURE SERVICES ADVISORY COUNCIL MEETING July 9. 1996 MASHPEE MIDDLE SCHOOL Present: Sheila Arnold Pat Riley Kim Whitney Terrie Cook Ken Marsters Sandra Dawes Also Present: Robert Whritenour Peter Dinizio Curtis Frye Nancy Caffyn Kathy Lynch Stephen Paxton Maryanne MacDonald John Williams Gus Frederick Absent Linda Young L Opening of Meeting - Sheila Arnold opened the meeting in the cafeteria of the Mashpee Middle School at 6:36 PM. Because so many people were in attendance, including members of the School Commitee, Board of Selectmen, and Leisure Services. Sheila suggested that the meeting start for discussion at Old Business. II. Old Business - Discussion began on the use of the Mashpee High School Facility. Sheila began with a discussion on the Joint Community Use Agreement Draft. Sheila said that the idea behind the discussion originated with Mr. Williams and the Leisure Services Committee, and Gus offered to help with scheduling. Leisure Services would be given priority on scheduling. The agreement should include wording which gives the Community, by some priority, use of the schools through scheduling through the Leisure Services Department. That was how it was intended to be. The agreement set forth should be very simple and not involve a large number of people or a great amount of time. Sheila felt that a general agreement between the three bodies be drafted, and scheduling responsibility always remain the responsibility of the school principal with the assistance of Leisure Services. Different options were mentioned in scheduling - a scheduling board, map of the school showing the areas that are off limits, etc. The meeting was opened up for discussion on the Draft. Steve Paxton referred to a paper from the school lawyer discussing the difference between the school running after school activities and Leisure Services. Also discussed was building security, communication issues, master calendar, and a security check for the people that are doing services for Leisure Services. Also check on custodial fees and any extra amount it would cost while programs are being run. Steve Paxton feels there is a tug of war over the new building and that with three schools there should be plenty of space.
