June
Forni discussed the poor attendance at meetings, and asked if there were guidelines covering
missed meetings. Gus said that he would contact Lew Farwell to see if he still wants to be on the
commission.
Marita Scott was introduced to the committee, and given time to explain her
aterest in the committee. After a short discussion - Gordon Harris made a motion to accept
Marita Scott's application to be a member of the commission. Jodi Granucci seconded the
motion. Motion carried.
B> SUMMER PROGRAM UPDATE
1> Lifeguards li' Gate Attendants
R discussion took place on the hiring of the gate attendants and life guards.
We have hired some Native American and some who Hue in town. With the use of the Holiday
Estates pool during the off-season, we will be able to train kids in town to be guards. Gus
discussed that this is the second year for some of the life guards and some of the guards are
getting more involved with the children and the life guards are becoming role models for some.
Jodi asked if there were any problems with alcohol on the beach. Gus said
that alcohol was a big issue. Signs have been ordered indicating"No Alcoholic Beverages
Allowed". This issue would be addressed at the Police Advisory Committee which will be held on
Wednesday, July 6th, at the Police Department. Robert Mills will be heading the Committee.
Another issue is the problem on land on Route 130 near Rttaquin Park, and
separating those that are causing problems. Gordon Harris indicated that it is illegal to drink in
public and rules should not be bent. If they were at any other beach they would be given a
citation for drinking in public. He also feels that the rules are being bent for Rttaquin. and there
is inconsistency in the handling of public drinking at Rttaquin Beach. Gordon indicated that Police
should give warnings, then give out citations . This should be done at all the beaches.
One program we will offer at Rttaquin will be swim lessons. Free swim lessons are
ffered at Rttaquin and John's Pond. for Pre-School through 16. The 14 -16 years olds are the
nard ages. This is the group that probably will not take swim lessons or join our camp.
