• MASHPEE HIGH SCHOOL BUILDING COMMITTEE
JULY 13, 1993
MASHPEE TOWN HALL
Present: Peter Dinizio, Steve Greelish, Merry Sue Ahlgren, Bill
Jones, Bill Martiros, Bob Mills, Joe Polito, Tom Fudala, Gus
Frederick, Leisure Services Director, Dr. Lincoln DeMoura,
Superintendent of Schools Paw, bo 04th
Absent: Linda Murtha, Janice Mills
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Mr. Griffin made a motion to accept the minutes of July 6 , 1993.
Ms. Ahlgren seconded the motion. All members were in favor.
REPORT FROM DR. DEMOURA AND GUS FREDERICK
Dr. DeMoura presented to the Committee plans which were prepared
by Tom Fudala for the Educational Facilities Needs Committee
incorporating Dr. DeMoura's thoughts on sports facilities that
should be included.
There were plans for each of the two sites under consideration .
The plans showed: soccer fields, 10 tennis courts, 3 baseball
• diamonds, 5 softball fields, football field, field hockey and a
track.
At the Davis school one of the plans showed room for another
elementary school which could share some of the facilities.
Different sites would have different configurations but the same
considerations. It would be beneficial to have some facilities
close to the road with easy access by the community . A lot of
parking will also be needed.
Mr. Jones asked Dr. DeMoura if you have to have all of those
facilities? Dr. DeMoura responded in his opinion yes. The Town
does not presently have enough fields. Many games are played in
Falmouth. Do we want our children to have the same access to
activities as other schools have.
Mr. Griffin reminded the Committee not to "pick on" the
configuration of these plans. The architect hired will have to
fit the required fields on the site.
The Committee discussed the softball fields. A lot of people
play softball . There presently aren't any softball fields in
town. Those fields could also be used by little league play and
as soccer fields.
The Committee reviewed a plan of the same site using only 1/2 of
the parcel (78 acres) and more of the land near Rte 130. This
• did not include an elementary school on site.
1
