• - Is there a substantial difference between a Junior/Senior High
building and just a High School? Mr. Franceschi responded it is
a philosophical issue. If they don't want a mixture of students
it will be designed that way and that will increase the cost but
it is not necessary.
- The Committee wants to consider increasing walking and bike
riding through bikepath and sidewalk construction . The Selectmen
have adopted a bikeway map. The State does not require a town to
bus students over the 7th grade but Mashpee chooses to bus all
it' s students because the roads are so dangerous.
- The Committee has listed some things which may be cut in the
next phase because of money so DRA should be creative in that
area.
- Auditorium. Mr. Franceschi stated schools build to serve 1 /4 to
an entire school population but most build for about 1/2 of the
student population. If you stay within your budget, the State
will re-imburse for the entire auditorium.
Can there be a removable petition to open up more space?
Acoustically it is a problem to work as a theater but that can be
incorporated.
Mr. Franceschi agreed with the use of large screen TVs and remote
to another room The issue becomes how many parking spaces to
provide. There can be auxiliary parking along a large entrance
road or in bus lanes for town meetings, etc.
- The Committee reviewed the leisure service' s list with Mr.
• Franceschi and highlighted their previous discussion .
Mr. Franceschi noted some things increase the percentage of re-
imbursement if you can demonstrate the need and numbers, i .e. an
after school bi-lingual education program. The Committee asked
him to list what is available and can then determine if there is
a need.
- The Committee reviewed Dr. DeMoura's academic program list with
Mr. Franceschi . A Superintendent's office space should be added ,
as well as any school department employees now using the Davis
School for office space.
- None of the present schools have a satellite dish; that should
be included.
Mr. Larson had to leave the meeting ; for the next meeting he
needs to meet with Tom Fudala to get as much information as
possible on the site and look at the sites. Chairman Dinizio
stated Mr. Fudala is at their disposal .
For the next meeting Mr. Franceschi will gather information, he
asked permission to talk with the Superintendent and Leisure
Services to elaborate on their list and answer any questions. He
will have a draft of the program and start talking about the land
needed.
• Mr. Franceschi explained their consultants will need permission
4
