• MASHPEE HIGH SCHOOL BUILDING COMMITTEE MINUTES
AUGUST 3 , 1993
MASHPEE TOWN HALL
Present: Linda Murtha, Merry Sue Ahlgren, Bill Jones, Bill
Martiros, Joe Polito, Bill Jones, Janice Mills, Paul Griffin ,
Peter Dinizio, Greg Taylor, Tom Fudala, Dr. Lincoln DeMoura
Absent: Robert Mills, Stephen Greelish
Meeting convened at 4: 20 p.m.
MINUTES
Ms. Ahlgren made a motion to accept the minutes of July 27 , 1993.
Mr. Griffin thought the discussion describing a 2/3 vote is
required at Town Meeting for a Proposition 2 1/2 override is
necessary was in error. The Committee agreed that is the correct
procedure.
Greg Taylor stated the discussion describing Goodspeeds Road as
an ancient way is a problem. He was told by town council that
legally, there are no ancient ways. It can be called a " road" .
Mr. Griffin made a motion to accept the minutes as amended. Ms.
Ahlgren seconded the motion. All Committee members were in
favor.
• DISCUSSION WITH FIELDS POINT RE: PROPOSED FINE ARTS CENTER
Greg Taylor explained Doug Storrs was not able to attend but gave
Greg some information for the Committee. They reviewed a plan
with the proposed location for the arts center. It is not under
the power lines as the Committee previously thought, it is on the
next piece of property up, on Fields Point property. Fields
Point is amenable to use a common access. They are allowed to
develop their own access across their property. Doug Storrs can
attend another meeting. They suggest the town look at the
property across the street on Old Barnstable Road for a possible
elementary school , it would be abutting but separated from the
high school .
Tom noted that site was rejected by the previous committee. It
is a 28 acre parcel . There is a subdivision planned for it.
Mr. Martiros said it is to the developers advantage to have a
buildable project on that site.
Tom explained there is no longer protective zoning on the 151
site so the property value has just gone down .
Greg Taylor stated this project is just in the planning stages ,
they still must raise a large sum of money. There is probably
some flexibility. He spoke with the developers who are excited
about the possibility of a high school on the site.
•
1
