f
Superintendent, Architect and the Committee. Give the Committee
• information and feedback to make decisions.
- Preliminary liaison with SFSB.
Dr. DeMoura agreed the Committee could use someone working with
them full time during the design phase; make sure it meets SFSB
criteria. He estimates it would take 2-3 months to develop
educational specifications.
Ms. Murtha stated each architect interviewed mentioned an
educational consultant that will come with the architect as part
of the project. This seems to be duplicating that.
The Committee discussed this issue at length .
Mr. Griffin thinks the Committee needs someone to report to them.
If we give it to the architectural consultant we loose control .
From his experience there are many details to work out. The
Committee should hire someone through the design phase, which
could last 12 months.
Ms. Ahlgren mentioned that Mashpee does not have a high school
staff to ask questions of. We need opinions and information to
design the school . She is concerned we will build a school
without high school people involved .
Mr. Polito stated the architect will research everything about a
high school , develop a good data base and scrutinize people who
know. You have to have checks and balances. The Committee needs
someone to look at and scrutinize the architect's numbers.
. Mr. Griffin does not want to pre-set a curriculum based on a
building.
Dr. DeMoura stated the principal and School Committee will be
involved in selecting a staff, naming the school , choosing school
colors, sports and scheduling . There is a lot of Community work
and working with Committees. Mr. Griffin is describing more of
an engineer.
Mr. Griffin was thinking more about an educator, working solely
in design criteria.
Chairman Dinizio asked Dr. DeMoura if he sees a problem with the
Committee hiring someone?
Dr. DeMoura does not but he told the Committee they can count on
the Superintendent's office to do a lot of those things, to keep
the project moving .
Mr. Polito began to wonder what the purpose of this person is?
The architect has to be able to do what we are describing. The
Committee may need more of a clerk to control the data.
Ms. Murtha stated Dr. DeMoura expects to have a principal by
March whose sole job will be getting the high school on board.
We don 't need another position especially since the architectural
firm will have their own consultant. If the principal needs help
he will let us know.
**What type of consultant should the Committee hire, their own , a
principal or both?
• Ms. Murtha - just a principal if the position is filled by March .
3
