All members in favor.
Mr. Franceschi , DRA was present with two of their consultants
Mike Abend, traffic consultant and Bill Hadge, GZA to report to
the Committee.
• Mike Abend , Abend Associates presented a draft traffic report for
review by the Committee. He feels both sites can work from a
traffic standpoint. There is no major congestion or safety
problems by developing either site. He has some preference for
the Rte 130 site because it is closer to the students. Based on
the planning district map he came up with at "total student
miles" to and from each school- Rte 130 came out as 1 .2 miles per
student and 151 site as 1 . 9 miles per student which is 27%
further away on average, per student. He reviewed how many
students would be within walking distance of 1 mile. Rte 130 had
398 students within 1 mile and 151 had 123 students. This means
the facilities are available after school , it is more convenient
and accessible.
Mr. Franceschi stated they can quantify the busing costs.
Mr. Martiros asked if the shopping traffic on 151 was considered?
It is a busy road and he thinks this high school will add more
traffic.
Mr. Abend took into account that it is a much busier street. He
thought the performing arts center somewhat irrelevant to the
analysis. Route 151 has more capacity, more flexibility and can
be widened easier.
Mr. Abend used distribution of students to decide where people
would be turning, that will change somewhat with staff,
. deliveries, etc.
1
