HIGH SCHOOL BUILDING COMMTPTEE MEETING MINUTES
TUESDAY,MAY 27, 1997
TOWN HALL
Present: Merry Sue Ahlgren, Joe Polito,Bill Martiros,Janice Mills,Paul Griffin, Jim Byrne, Ian
Aitchison,Ron Bok,Dr.Lincoln DeMoura
Meeting convened at 4:00 p.m.
Joe would like to know if this Committee is still involved with maintenance of this building? He
would like to see the carpeting maintenance contract to see if they are being cleaned often
enough.
Paul said this Committee could vote now to pre-pay a testing company to test the carpet and
report to the Board of Selectmen(for when this Committee is dissolved).
Joe said proper maintenance must be built into the School Dept. Budget, the heath of the
students is important.
Paul said it has always been his opinion that maintenance should not be part of the school
department's budget. When it comes to buying books for students or maintaining the building, of
course they must buy the books.
Janice said she thinks the floors in the lobby always look dirty, she is concerned the maintenance
company if not cleaning the building properly.
Paul asked the board secretary to send a letter to Dr. DeMoura asking him to report to the
Committee on the cleaning and maintenance of the building, including the lobby floors and
carpets.
The Committee discussed the problems with the front entrance sign(letters coming oft).
Paul asked Jim Byrne to discuss this with a sign company and have them give us suggestions and
a proposal.
Ron Bok said Cape Cod Tech students made the sign for that school. Jim will speak with them.
The Committee reviewed a list prepared by Dr. DeMoura of items he feels still need to be
purchased:
1. Phase two computer purchases: Jim Byrne talked with Mike Kirwin today. He is waiting for
direction for the school department as to what they want purchased in phase two. Jim will
arrange a meeting between John Williams, the network administrator and Mike Kirwin to
discuss the phase two purchases and report back to the Committee at the next meeting..
2. Network Administrator request: UPS backup: should have been speced to begin with.
CD Roms and CD cards and headset for the library: Paul has a problem with this, it was
discussed amongst everyone involved when deciding on the final makeup.
Janice asked why the library is without CD roms, the library needs this.
Paul said Steve Greelish said that the majority of CD roms would be pulled off of the network so
the library did not need them.
Janice said we did well in the purchases we made but we now have a professional network
1
