COOMBS SCHOOL <br /> SCHOOL COUNCIL MINUTES <br /> Meeting of October 23, 2007 <br /> Main Office Conference Room <br /> The meeting was called to order at 3:30 PM. <br /> Present were Mrs. Barbara Cotton(Parent Representative), Mrs. Maria Cortez (Parent <br /> Representative), Mrs. Louise Doyle (Principal), Ms. Claudia Motta(Assistant Principal), <br /> Mrs. Palmer(Teacher Representative), Ms. Russell (Teacher Representative), Mrs. <br /> Wilber(Teacher Representative), and Mrs. Alison Taylor(Parent Representative). <br /> No one was present for open forum. <br /> Council introductions proceeded and new members for the FY 08 school year were <br /> welcomed. <br /> New members were provided with a copy of the pamphlet "School Councils". <br /> Discussion followed about the duties and responsibilities of School Councils per the <br /> attached summary. Emphasis was placed on management of the school's educational <br /> goals, overseeing the FY 09 budget proposals with the principal, and implementation of <br /> the School Improvement Plan throughout the year. <br /> The council members then reviewed the three-year budget projection for the Coombs <br /> School accounting for the FY09, FY10 and FY 11 school years. The three-year <br /> projection was a town request. Mrs. Doyle shared the personnel priorities particularly <br /> and also shared the School Committee's ratings for each request. <br /> Members were informed of the work being done by a Coombs paraprofessional, Mrs. <br /> Linda Ryan, regarding a Community Preservation Act (CPA) application to improve the <br /> Coombs playgrounds. <br /> The educational goals of the School Improvement Plan were reviewed. Mrs. Doyle will <br /> make a presentation at the December 12`h School Committee meeting of the progress <br /> made in regard to those goals. Specifically, the goals address are as follows: <br /> ➢ 85% of preschoolers at KCC will enter kindergarten prepared to be successful <br /> with the literacy curriculum as measured by Reading Street assessments,work <br /> sampling, assessment portfolios and TROLL. <br /> ➢ 50% of students who are at risk will move to the some risk or low risk categories <br /> on DIBELS. <br /> ➢ 25 % of students at some risk will move to the low risk category on DIBELS. <br />
