student will not be dismissed to anyone other than a parent/guardian unless a written
AsP
note is submitted to the school office prior to such a dismissal. Parents/guardians
requesting dismissal to a third party on a regular basis (i.e. Scouts, religious classes, etc.)
must have a written note on file in the office. If a child attends a weekly function for the
entire year such as scouts, the parent may write only one long-term note to the teacher
concerning dismissal of the child for this weekly function. If this changes at any time
another note is required. Notes are required for both early dismissals and for students not
riding the bus on a given day.
Parents/guardians are discouraged from requesting early dismissal except for emergencies,
medical appointments, etc. When necessary, appointments should be made so that the
student misses as little class time as possible. When requesting an early dismissal, a dated,
written note, signed by the parent or guardian is required. The time and reason for the
dismissal must be stated in this note, which should be presented to the classroom teacher
before the start of school. ,
No child is to be removed from a bus or a bus line during dismissal procedures. No last
minute (dismissal time) dismissal requests by phone accepted.
Students will not be dismissed until 3:20pm (K-2, pm and full-day preschool).
If dismissed prior to 3:20pm, a child cannot attain perfect attendance for the year.
File: DEED-R
STUDENT ABSENCES AND EXCUSES
The minimum standards of attendance expectations will be as follows:
Students in grades 1-12 must be in regular attendance a minimum of 168 days for the school year.
Exceptions to these standards will be considered upon written appeal to the building principal.
The building principal, or a designee, will alert parents after 50% of the allowable absences have
accrued thereby giving notice to the student who may be in danger of not meeting the minimum
attendance expectations. Students granted excused absences will be allowed and encouraged to
make up any work which is missed.
Students who do not attend school the full day will not be allowed to participate in or attend any
school activities on that day, unless documentation is presented and approved by the administration.
A student absent for five consecutive school days will need a physician's certificate to return.
All students, when their absences reach 50%of the maximum number of school days, will be
contacted, in writing, by the school principal.
All students, upon reaching their maximum number of absences, will be contacted by the school
principal. At the same time, the attendance officer will be contacted to investigate the child's
attendance.
All students who exceed the number of absences will be truant. The attendance officer will be
requested to take legal action.
(S.C. 6/2/92,Rev. 9/6/95, 7/11/01, 8/4/04, 9/5/07)
13
