STUDENT BUS RIDER CODE OF ETHICS
Good conduct is essential to bus safety. How you behave while on the school bus is our concern.
We want you to feel safe, to enjoy your ride to and from school, to understand that you are actually
in school, guided by school rules, while you are on the bus or at the bus stop. The following rules
of conduct must be obeyed.
DO:
• Talk quietly with your friends
• Remain seated while the bus is in motion
• Be on time at the bus stop
• Obey the bus driver
• Enjoy your ride to and from school
• Know the emergency exits on the bus
DON'T:
• Switch seats
• Eat, drink or smoke on the bus
• Damage school bus equipment
• Talk to the bus driver while the bus is in motion
• Talk loudly, shout or scream
• Put your arms, legs or head out of the window
• Throw anything out of the bus window
• Engage in pushing, pulling or poking around on the bus
• Bring animals or pets on the bus
• Throw things on the school bus
• Use profane or indecent language
PROCEDURES FOR DRIVERS AND PARENTS/GUARDIANS
• In case of any misconduct on a bus, the incident will be reported on the proper form to the
school Principal. The Principal will contact the parent/guardian and a copy of the
disciplinary action will be returned to the driver within three (3) school days.
• In case of repeated misbehavior by the same student, the Principal may suspend the
student's transportation privileges with written notice to the parent/guardian.
Parents/guardians and/or students will be notified at least 24 hours prior to the bus
suspension. Bus suspension shall not exceed two(2) school days.
• After a third offence a conference between the parents/guardians, student, Principal and
driver/contractor will be held. Bus suspension shall not exceed five(5) school days.
• After a fourth offence a conference between the parents/guardians, student, Principal and
driver/contractor will be held. Bus suspension shall not exceed ten(10)school days.
• After a fifth offense, bus privileges may be denied the student and the responsibility for
transportation will then rest with the parent/guardian.
Again, the above disciplinary measures are meant as a guide.
A student may be denied transportation by the Principal when, in his/her opinion, the student's
behavior jeopardizes the health, welfare and safety of other students riding that bus.
25
l
