Special Education Services <br /> The district provides programs that support special education of students along a continuum of <br /> services. On the basis of eligibility services include language based learning centers, behavior <br /> support centers, autism spectrum resources, and related services. The district also offers a <br /> range of related services such as, occupational therapy, physical therapy, counseling, and <br /> speech/language services for those who qualify. <br /> The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) <br /> The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) is a United States federal law whose <br /> purpose is to guarantee equal education opportunity for all school-age children requiring o <br /> special education. The law provides for the referral to an Evaluation Team of any student who <br /> is unable to progress effectively in a general education program. <br /> r' <br /> In addition to parents/guardians, the Team can be comprised of a nurse, school counselor, <br /> school adjustment counselor, psychologist, special and regular education teachers, " <br /> occupational, physical, and speech therapist. Administrators may also be include in Team <br /> meetings as well. <br /> The Team convenes to review the evaluation of the student to determine eligibility for services <br /> and develop an educational plan which is responsive to the child's individual special needs. <br /> School Notice of Non-Discrimination <br /> No person shall be excluded from or discriminated against in their application for admission to <br /> a public school of any town, or in obtaining the advantages, privileges and courses of study of <br /> such public school on account of race, color, gender, religion, national origin or sexual <br /> orientation. <br /> Student Records <br /> 603 CMR 23.00 insures parents'and students' rights of confidentiality, inspection, amendment, and <br /> destruction of student records. <br /> (2) If a student is from 14 through 17 years of age or has entered the ninth grade, both the <br /> student and his/her parent, or either one acting alone, shall exercise these rights. <br /> (3) If a student is 18 years of age or older, he/she alone shall exercise these rights. The parent <br /> may continue to exercise the rights until expressly limited by such student. <br /> "Parent" includes a student's father or mother, or guardian, or person or agency legally <br /> authorized to act on behalf of the student. <br /> a <br /> The student record shall consist of the transcript and the temporary record, including any <br /> materials regardless of physical form or characteristics concerning a student that is organized <br /> on the basis of the student's name or in a way that such student may be individually identified. <br /> tc <br /> 33 <br />
