COOMBS SCHOOL <br /> SCHOOL COUNCIL <br /> TUESDAY,JANUARY 18, 2011 <br /> 3PM - MAIN OFFICE CONFERENCE ROOM <br /> Minutes <br /> Meeting called to Order: <br /> Attendance: Elaine Pender, Patti Kenny, Deb Greene, Kathy Penney, Elizabeth Wilber, <br /> Dan O'Neil, Cara Eaton <br /> • Public Comment: None <br /> Minutes: <br /> • Approval of November Minutes <br /> Old Business: <br /> • Nick Feldman Soortsmanshio Award: Comments/Sueaestions <br /> Dan O'Neil suggested that we come up with awards for grades one and two. <br /> Marge Mitchell is still working on forming a committee. <br /> • Mashnee Cares <br /> Superintendent Bradshaw has spearheaded a town-wide initiative to brainstorm ideas/ <br /> solutions regarding substance abuse, gangs, teen suicide, bullying and peer pressure. <br /> Individuals from many programs have come together to begin developing strategies <br /> to combat these student issues. The group consists of Mashpee Public Schools (MPS) <br /> administrators, teachers, and counselors along with staff from the Boys and Girls <br /> Club. The Mashpee Police will also be in attendance along with parents, town hall <br /> staff and elected officials. The members of the School Council were encouraged to <br /> become involved with this community initiative. The next meeting is scheduled for <br /> Tuesday, February I"at 6:00 pm. <br /> Elaine explained that KCC has developed many support programs for parents which <br /> are designed to strengthen families. Julie Hall the MFCP (Mashpee Family <br /> Community Partnership) coordinator has set up eight parent workshops that educate <br /> caregivers on child development, parenting, managing stress, and many other helpful <br /> topics. On January 15'h over 200 children and their families danced and sang to the <br /> performance of`The Toe Jam Puppet Band" which was free of charge and sponsored <br /> by MFCP. <br /> The PTO has also been very busy sponsoring several events. The Harvest <br /> Celebration was an enormous success, along with the Giving Tree which supported <br /> families in need during the holiday season. Without the generous donations of our <br /> staff and community members we would not be able to help so many families in need. <br /> On January IP the PTO sponsored Family Movie Night showing "Despicable Me" <br /> another huge success. <br /> Kindness Week: -.1anuary 24 - 28 <br />
