School Improvement Planning Process GOAL 3 - HUMAN RESOURCES AND Draft Format for Action Planning: How are we going to get there? PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT Strategic Goal Statement (What is the research base for this strategy?): Staff will devote 100% of provided professional development time to working in effective Professional Learning Communities. The PLCs are based on the research of DuFour, DuFour, Eaker and Many. District release time and meetings per staff goals will provide for teacher collaboration to improve student learning. Staff will be committed to their weekly, monthly and yearly professional development meeting times. Connection to District Strategic Plan (To which District Objective(s) does this Goal tie?): Goal Area 1: Academic Achievement - Objective 1: Improve student achievement - Objective 2: Highly qualified teachers in every classroom. Strategy 1 — Ensure optimal use of instructional time; Strategy 2 — Teach all learning styles/differential instruction; Strategy 3 — Implement researched based teaching practices; Strategy 4 — Maintain high expectations for students; define performance standards, assess progress on learning standards; Strategy 5 — Provide time for educator collaboration; Goal Area 2: Human Resources and Professional Development - Objective 2: Professional Development - Strategy 2: Provide time for teacher collaboration. Goal Area 3: Student Support Services: Objective 1: Services for Students: Strategy 1-Provide enrichment to develop the strengths of every student; Strategy 2 — Enhance understanding of cultural diversity; Strategy 3 — equal access to quality education for all children; Strategy 4 — Invest in early childhood education; Strategy 5 — Develop an organized, systematic set of interventions for students who are not learning. Evidence of Effectiveness (How will we know that this strategic goal is having the intended effect on student performance and when will it be achieved?): Professional development calendar, agendas and minutes. Classroom observations by the administrator and PLCs improve student learning per Goal 2. PLCs also discuss critical issues for team consideration at each meeting regarding curriculum, assessment, instruction and progress monitoring.
