Friends of Mashpee Public Schools—No Updates from Barbara Cotton (absent)
2. SY11-12 Quashnet School Parent/Student Handbook—Summary of Approved Changes
Mrs. DeBoer reviewed the discussion of parent/student handbook changes that took place at the
May School Committee meeting. All proposed changes were approved as written.
3. Student Recognition Award Assemblies
School Council members support our continuing with our current student recognition program.
We realize that not all students receive a recognition award, but all students do have the potential
to earn one. For the student who does not earn A's and B's, recognition for perfect attendance,
for effort, and as a "rising star" are still options. We discussed other venues for providing students
with recognition by "invitation only'—an evening event or a before-school breakfast. However,
this would make it difficult for teachers to be in attendance.
4. School Uniforms—Khaki pants/shorts with long sleeve/short sleeve colored polo shirt
We reviewed article handouts–Pros/Cons of school uniforms. School Council members would
like to move forward and further explore this topic. A letter will be prepared by Mrs. DeBoer to
survey Quashnet School parents on this topic. Staff input will also be gathered. Our idea is for
Quashnet students to wear khaki pants/shorts and polo shirts—long/short sleeve—any color.
We would provide parents with reasonably priced vendors and would also try to support families
that might be facing financial hardship.
